Be back in a week

Eeeeeep, I’m so tired! I just got back from a family dinner at my aunty’s house and now I have to pack for the AMSA Convention. I so can’t be bothered because there’s so much to pack and I have to organise my costumes for the party theme nights.  Right now I’m sitting in front of the TV watching The Wedding Singer, I really like this movie!

Anyway I better go pack. I won’t be blogging for the following week because I’ll be staying at a hotel for the convention, so I doubt I’ll have time to blog or have access to internet.

Here’s a photo of the cake my friends, Kelly and Anthony made for Richard for his birthday party yesterday! (Look closely, you can see pacman! Pacman made from chocolate covered marshmellow, cut out mouth and sliced Allen’s snakes for Pacman’s eyes on top of chocolate cake and smothered in whipped cream.)

Doom Love cake or was it Love Cake of Doom??? Kelly kept changing the name :DD

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Things I Love

Things I Love Thursday started by the fabulous Gala Darling. In her words:

“What this means is that we make lists of the things that make us smile, make our heart flutter with excitement & make us dance spontaneous jigs in the middle of the street! Then we share them with one another. I think one of the best ways to get excited about your life is to take stock of the things in it which are already magnificent, fabulous & delightful! If you do it regularly, it starts to become a way of thinking — you feel that your life is already full of glory & wonder, rather than lacking. It’s one of the best ways I know to start feeling real happiness”

My list this week:

  • Baking cupcakes: personally I think cupcakes are the ultimate dessert because they encompass cute and delicious all in the palm of your hand. I used to not be a fan of baking because I did not have the patience, but now I find it really satisfying. It doesn’t matter if it leans to one side or the icing is really messy, you made it with your bare hands! Bake anything and let all that rage, sadness, love -whatever in that dough!
  • Sketching while listening to Allie Moss: perfect combo on a grey afternoon. Makes me feel still and my emotions get lost in the lines.
  • Spending time with the people who made your childhood: it’s been a long time since my little sister, cousin and I were together and we managed to do that on the weekend. When we were little, we used to sleep at each other’s houses all the time, talk on the phone every weekend for hours, make pinatas, catch butterflies, watch Cool Runnings a gazillion times and go shopping, etcetc. Unfortunately,  as we grew up we drifted but when we are together, it’s comforting and fun to reminisce and be with the people who you grew up with.
  • MAMMA MIA IT'S MARIO!!!chocolate, hazelnut and double cream crepeNew Zealand Fudge goodness

  • Meeting a blog buddy:  Winniey arrived in Melbourne a few days ago and I met up with her and her friend yesterday. It’s so nice to finally meet a friend you’ve known for years (over the net) in person! We went to the ”Game on” exhibition at ACMI; it was an exhibition on the history and development of videogames. It was heaps of fun to see and play all those old school games I loved to play as a kid like Prince of Persia, Bubble Bobble, Puzzle Bobble, Tetris, Space Invaders and the old versions of Mario Also got to play Virtue Fighter on Eyetoy which was hilarious. Afterwards, we had crepes on Degraves Street. I had a chocolate, hazelnut and double cream crepe which was pretty good. I had a wonderful time and I wish I could see Winniey again before she leaves however I’m fully booked for the next few days.  Thank-you so much for the New Zealand fudge Winn!
  • Bumping into a highschool friend: when I was waiting at the bus stop yesterday I saw a guy who looked really familiar walking towards me. Finally it hit me, it was Tung!!! A highschool friend who I haven’t seen since the end of 2006! He was the same but different. More manly, haha, but of course he is still the goofy and funny guy I knew. He offered me a lift to the station in his Supra and we had a really good chat during the ride. He was no longer going out with his highschool girlfriend and after many times of “getting drunk and making out with a girl” he has a new girlfriend now. Typical   It was really nice to see him though, should catch up with him properly sometime.

    Take or Toss?

Sex and the City was a disappointment because with the hype around it I expected it to be spectacular. It felt it lacked depth and it didn’t really showcase the special relationship the girls had and there were certain jokes and character traits I was very surprised of; it was not the Sex and the City I knew. Furthermore there was really bad editting because the microphone could be seen dangling from the top off the screen for a couple of scenes! I couldn’t believe they would have missed that error! However it was still pretty good and I had a few laughs and tears.

I felt a bit Carrie Bradshaw yesterday as I cleaned out my drawers and wardrobe. I was running out of room for my clothes, so I thought it was about time I sort through them and decided whether to “take or toss?” Since I share my bedroom with my little sister she sorted through her clothes too and we ended up with seven garbage bags filled with clothes to be given to charity. So many memories, fashion trends and fashion mistakes in those bags.

Talking about a huge mistake, I did an impulse buy the other day and regretted it (never rely on retail therapy to cheer yourself up.. makes it worst sometimes), so I spent the day today with my sister and cousin trying to look for another item to exchange it with. Furthermore my cousin was feeling down so I thought we could cheer her up.

    Fisheye’s view

I had my first roll of film from my Fisheye2 camera developed today!  It was extremely difficult to find a place which developed film because everyone uses digital cameras nowadays, but finally found a place close to home. One thing I love about this camera and lomography is the pleasant surprises and spontaneity! Being my first attempt, some photos turned out dodgey, others didn’t turn out at all and others turned out way better than I expected!

Carousel along the banks of the Yarra River. I love carousels!

I love this photo. It has this gloomy 1900’s look to it. The reason why I love venturing through the streets of
Melbourne is because of these beautiful lanes.

The view of the city from the top of the Shrine of Remembrance. I love how the multiple exposure makes it look like the city is floating in the sky.

Driving home from a family party, I played with the long exposure by keeping my finger on the button for as long as I could.

I would like to find a place which can upload my photos onto an account because scanning these photos took forever and I hear it would be cheaper. You can view more photos on my newly-created Flickr account. Add me!

Tomorrow I’m having lunch with Dad in the city and then meeting up with my friend Kelly to watch Sex and the City. I just need to keep myself busy busy busy. No time to let the mind wander!

    Costume ideas please!

The AMSA Convention is in Melbourne this year! It’s a convention for medical students from all around Australia and New Zealand. I spent the whole night trying to get hold of tickets few months ago. I wasn’t big on going however I thought since it was in Melbourne and it’s an experience all Med students should be part of, I signed up just in case I regret it later on. Basically it’s a week of workshops, guest speakers.. academic things during the day and at night it’s partay!! The parties have a theme and this year it’s loosely around countries. It’s in 2 weeks time and I need costume ideas!  Registration involves entry to the parties, accomodation and alcohol. I just got everything except the alcohol, because too pricey and even though I live in Melbourne, I wanted the accomodation because it’s at the Sebel Hotel; 4 and a half stars! Also more convenient when I’m running between the Academic and Social programs.

    The themes are:

Most of the ideas practically leave room for little clothes as possible. Friends who went to the Convention in Adelaide last year, said basically if you wear too much clothes you’ll get very hot and you’ll be the odd one out.

    Ideas please!!!

    12.36am

    Yay 3 week holiday!

After our exam we went to Lygon Street to celebrate Ellen’s Birthday.

    marinara

I had the marinara which was really nice; very garlicy and seafoody - just as I like it . My friend ordered some kind of gourmet chicken pizza which I thought looked really yummy and cool with the swirl. For dessert we had a lemon meringue cake and a strawberry shortcake .

I just arrived home. It’s past midnight but I’m not in the sleeping mood so I’m going to watch ‘27 Dresses’ when I finish blogging. I’ve been having a lot of trouble with sleep this past year. I don’t think I’ve had a good period of good sleep for a long time. I’m going to type a private entry after the movie. Please don’t hesistate to email me for the password.

    I want to live again

I am so exhausted. I’ve been cramming 14 weeks of lectures, tutes and quizzes in the last one and a half weeks of swotvac. A disadvantage of having only one written exam is that it is on everything! I’m reading anatomy one hour and then I’m onto microbiology, pharmacology, health and knowledge management the next! wahhhhhhhh!!

I can’t stop daydreaming. I want to go shopping, meet up with friends, finally get my head around wordpress and put up a nice spanking layout, eat cupcakes, watch movies, take photos, dance around my room with the music on fullblast!!

Basically live the life I haven’t been, these last 6 months

    Exam is on Thursday 2.30 - 5.30pm.  1 more day to go….

    Follow up

As I promised, here are some of my sketches from Dr Sketchy (sorry about the quality, it was hard to see, so I altered the contrasts).

Left top hand corner less than 5 minute sketch and the others are 10 minute sketches
By the end of the night I was getting better and better at sketching breasts :D Normally I prefer to sketch faces because I love showing emotion and that normally takes a long time, so it was really good to just branch out and sketch bodies in a time limit. Never know, could help with my Anatomy :p

Remember the Layout Designer position for the GHC AMSA VECTOR magazine I applied for?Well.. I got the job! The publicist called me a few days ago to tell me and I was so shocked! She really liked the enthusiasm of my CV! My job officially begins on the 1st of July so I have from now til then to find and learn how to use a layout designing program for magazines. Any suggestions? I swear this is like my dream guys.. I like Med, but art/design has always been my passion. It feels so good to be able to do both! ^^

Right now I’m trying not to get sick. I went to Uni today to hand in my assignment and return my library book. It takes me 1 and a half hours to get to uni; bus, 2 trains and bus, so I was not happy that I was going to spend much more time travelling than staying there. What made it worse was this moody weather   I swear it was all flowers and sunshine when I left so I wore a dress and t-shirt cardigan but when I reached the bus stop it got cloudy and windy. From there to Uni and back, it was windy and freezing then it rained, poured and poured even more.. and when I reached home, the sun came out. Now it’s cloudy and threatening to rain again. Gah!

    Sweet week

Felt like I had a hangover this morning (even though I haven’t drank anything for months) and was running late for work. Don’t think I did too well in the OSCEs on Thursday because I was more nervous than I usually have been. My heart was beating so hard my chest hurt and afterwards I felt so dizzy.  Also had Sally’s party last night which was okay.. Anyway, despite life throwing lemons at me, whatever was going in my tummy was the opposite.

Monday: goodies we had after our cake appointment at Quality Cakes

On Friday we had a mini-party for our last PCL tute for the semester. Jenny baked Armenian biscuits which were absolutely delicious! I think I have a lady-crush on her now xD! I managed to scab the last biscuit, teehee~

Last night was Sally’s 21st Birthday party. There was SO much food and of course… the cake we bought for her!!

White chocolate continental sponge cake with edible stars

Since we didn’t want to massacre the cake, everyone ate the rosette-looking-rolls first, which was really sweet. Then we cut the sponge cake underneath which complemented the white chocolate sweetness very well. Not too sweet and had so many layers (sponge, mousse, sponge, cream, sponge, nuts, etcetc!)

Wouldn’t be surprised if I have diabetes now :p
